Struvite Collection Research and Development

Research and Development Document

Over the course of 16 weeks, I worked as the team lead for a group of 6 engineers scheduling meetings, assigning tasks, and setting goals. We put together a 35 page proposal to reduce algae blooms in Manitoba waterways due to agricultural runoff. Our low-level model outlines the preliminary design that would be used on farms to reduce hazardous runoff.

Included in this research and development proposal were Solidworks Simulations and assemblies to assist in the implementation of this waste storage process.

As a final proof of concept, a miniature version of the reaction system was constructed with a pump and nutrient rich runoff. This assembly, report, and final design was submitted to the 2021 AquaHacking Western Canada Challenge.

As part of a Solidworks design competition, I again led a small team of 8 members to create a replica of the Mars Discovery Rover. I recreated the central mast, building each of the 128 components myself using Nasa specification data.

The final design is made of well over 500 components and won 3rd place out of 87 college design teams.

Concrete Toboggan

This Years Team Competition

I had the pleasure of being able to help make the Concrete Toboggan for the GNCTR team at UBCO. This is an engineering team that goes through a year long process of designing and manufacturing a Concrete Toboggan for races against other College Teams.

In the early stages of design, I was exposed to a lot of simulation and superstructure work. This involved following safety guidelines put out by the governing race body, and previous experience from team members.

In the later parts of the engineering process, I got to spend time in the machine shop sandblasting, milling, and turning. This, coupled with the experience of pouring and testing concrete in hydraulic presses, taught me about the manufacturing process.

3D Printing Puzzle Boxes

In my free time I like to design puzzle boxes as gifts for friends and family. These are some of the best ones I've done

I 3D print the puzzle boxes of Prusa Commercial Printers. I have spent well over 100 hours printing puzzles.

I enjoy the creativity this activity allows me and the pleasant feeling of giving a gift to someone I care about.

Canadian Space Agency Microelectronics Testing

Proposal Document

In October of 2021 I started working on a brand new project for the Canadian Space Agency High Altitude Balloon Challenge. In this challenge, I worked with a team to put together a research proposal to test the efficiency of Silicon Semiconductor Designs to Mitigate Single Event Upsets (SEU) in Microcomputers.

Our proposal was submitted January 2021 and was accepted by the agency. We are now in the development stages of the experimental design with launch set for August 2022. Above is the software rendering of the experimental apparatus.

This project has required a high level of management and clear work breakdown structure, as well as consistent communication among the many complicated interconnecting tasks.

Portable Printed Planes Club

Club Website

In January of 2022 I got intensely interested in the process of printing and flying handheld planes. Only using saran wrap and 3D printed ribs I started to build planes in my free time.

With my newfound passion I recruited a team of executive members, build a website and applied to the student union organization for funding. On the website listed in the title you can see our projects.

This project is a passion of mine and allows me to explore an area of aerodynamics research in my free time that I don't cover in lecture content.
